Welcome!

Hey all, it's Emily, and this will be my most fantastic blog into the mystical pseudo-science of Astrology.

I am going to take on two aspects of this wide topic at once--The aspect of "Horoscopes," daily predictions of events based upon one's birthday. The other aspect is the more specific and more plausible aspect of "Natal Charts," or "Birth Charts," which take your earthly position, exact birth time, AND birth date to calculate aspects of one's personality and possible future happenings.

I will be daily comparing my horoscopes to actual events, scientifically evaluating how accurate it predicts my life.

I will also be providing information about how natal charts work, and giving some examples of some, including mine and whoever else would enjoy finding out about their chart. Some of the information is fascinating and bizarrely accurate, while others seem completely out of nowhere or contradictory to themselves.

This blog will explore both WHAT people believe in astrology and WHY people believe it.

  1. Your blog sounds very interesting! I like that you are connecting it with your personal events. What sign are you?

I'm curious about what you find in terms of examples of how people act on the belief that horoscopes/signs are true or indicative of personality. I have a friend who believes strongly in the signs and horoscopes. My friend actually uses the signs as a guide to understanding her friends' "personalities" and believes strongly that it will help in her interpersonal relationships!

  2. Hey Marina! Thanks! And for the record, I'm an Aquarius!

My mother has always attributed a lot of my creative abilities to my unusually imbalanced Natal Chart--I am very heavily "Aquarius" according to my Planetary chart, and a lot of the attributes from this seem very accurate about myself. I've always thought this was positive, but she also listens to horoscopes and is persuaded by them on how she should act and what she should seek out. This, I've always felt, deluded her sense of reality and helped her attribute fortunate or unfortunate events to external circumstances.

My mom definitely analyzed astrological charts to determine compatibility! She uses it to explain so many relationships!

  4. Holoscope is also a big thing in Japan, especially for women. I wonder if non-religious people, like many Japanese, tend to do fortune telling more than religious people because of lack of religious authority... Anyway, I wanna know more about the topic:)
